...where the crocodile rises out of the water and grabs the guy in the rowboat, decapitating him?

I thought that was so unrealistic, a crocodile rising up out of the water and attacking someone inside a boat. I just didn't think it was physically possible for a croc to get any leverage and thrust upwards (their legs are useless, and I thought their tail can only push forward, not "up".)

Well I was wrong:
SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- A professor at the University of Washington Medical School who moved to Botswana to help alleviate a shortage of doctors there, was killed when a crocodile dragged him from a dugout canoe, his family and colleagues said.

Richard K. Root, 68, was on a wildlife tour of the Limpopo River in remote northeastern Botswana with his wife, Rita O'Boyle, on Sunday when it happened. The couple had been visiting a clinic in the area.
[...]
Steve Gluckman, medical director of the Botswana program, said Root was in a lead dugout with the tour guides when the crocodile rose out of the water and grabbed him. He was not seen again. The tour guides were wary of hippos, but there had been no reports of crocodile attacks in the area.

At least it wasn't a hippo. Otherwise they'd all be eaten.

it was no where near as un-realistic as the ending one where it gets the copter though!

Wow, that is a rare occurance. And hippos don't eat people, they just kill you to protect territory.

P.S.:
For some reason "Lake Placid" makes me think of erectile dysfuntion.

Not entirely true...hippos will eat pretty much anything...they're aggressive because of protecting territory though.

Actually, it's quite a sad story. This doctor was an incredible humanitarian particularly in his work to train healthcare workers to deal with HIV/AIDS in Botswana.
