Kobayashi wins world hamburger eating contest

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn ? Japan's Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi set a new world hamburger-eating record Sunday by consuming 69 2 1/2-inch-square Krystal hamburgers in eight minutes to win the inaugural Krystal Square Off World Hamburger-Eating Championship in Chattanooga.

"Sixty-nine Krystals in eight minutes is astounding. Kobayashi is, without a doubt, the greatest eater ever to live upon planet earth," said David Baer of the International Federation of Competitive Eating.



Hosted by fast food icon The Krystal Co and billed as the Krystal Square Off, 14 of the world's greatest competitive eaters gathered to vie for the largest cash purse offered on the U.S. circuit, a whopping $17,500. Kobayashi took home the top prize of $10,000 cash, the Krystal World Champion's Belt, the champion's crystal trophy and the first-ever title of Krystal Square Off World Hamburger-Eating Champion.

Kobayashi already holds the world hot dog-eating title.

he's bigger than he looks. he just looks really small b/c he's usually eating next to some dude like The Fridge Perry who weighs 400. Pretty much anyone would look small compared to them. my guess is he weighs like 160-70. pretty small compared to everyone else in competitive eating

The guys that weigh 300-400+ pounds weigh it because they enjoy eating. Nothing enjoyable about eating to the point your feel like you're going to pop, or barf - or both. This guy enjoys competing.

yup rail thin, and tiny. its amusing seeing him take down 6 foot giants who are about as wide as they are tall.

Big fat guys supposedly have a disadvantage in eatingcompared to him because the weight of their fat compresses their stomachs making it harder for it to expand. :D

Saw a show about it on where else-discovery-and they drink gallons of water in one sitting to expand their stomachs. And he can expand his further because he doesn't have so much fat blocking it, which is why he can eat so much.
