Just wondering if anybody has tried using Dialpad after it stopped being free and if so how was the performance ?

I remember this service where you type in your phone # and the number you wanna call and in like 10 seconds your phone rings connecting to the other party. I think first 3 minutes were no hastle but after that you would have to click on 'GO' button for every extra minute.

what was the name for that site ??

I remember using that too. Can't remember what the website was called.

I used dialpad before too. I had friends who were from other countries and they called me using dialpad. Nothing like free calls to the US. There was lags though but it was fun.

I used to love dialpad. I primarily used it to call my own house. (It used to freak my wife out before she figured out how I was able to do it.)

That was cool, I used that a few times, I don't think its around anymore

Ahhhhh . . . Internet Nostalgia, no longer an oxymoron!

I remember using the 'ell out of dialpad back when it was free and ultra cheap long distance was less accessible.

Remember two tin cups and a string? 🙂

Skype is a program that turns your computer into a 'VOIP' phone. You use it with an internet connection and a mic/headset. It lets you make 'calls' anywhere in the world to other users that have skype installed. Supposedly gateway connectivity is in the works to the POTS system.

Tho, I don't see it. Skype uses a proprietary protocol that does not work directly with other products from other VOIP vendors. If the technology is going to take off I'd like to see them try to be more compliant especially if they tout future compatibility with telephone networks.
