It is illogical to sell downed cattle, cut up the meat and send it to seven states and then test the animals brain to discover MAD COW and then spend millions trying to track down the meat. Lets spend the money on the front end and test. I will continue to boycott uncertified beef till that happens because one life means something to me. And I win from the deal in terms of health. I guess illogical is also a no-brainer. Er...
You aren't seeing the big picture. Every single farm in the world has at least one significant disease in its animals. Disease free animals is impossible (just like we can't cure the common cold for humans). If every animal was tested for every disease, no meat would ever pass inspection and thus our government would instantly put a ban on all meat sold. Somewhere vegetarians cheered when I typed that. But lets not stop there, lets test non-meat products as well. Since even vegetarian products have insect parts, rat parts, etc in them, they will also have diseases. Lets not let fruit, vegetables, etc sell either since those are infected. What are we left with? No food, everyone starves, and the country is a better place?

Or just prepare realize that disease is inevitable, and prepare the food properly to minimize the potential hazzards to humans that consume it. Which would you rather have.

You can't kill MAD COW by cooking meat. I am not worried about disease. I am protesting a policy that I think is wrong. I want all beef tested. I eat organic so I don't mind eating organic bugs. I don't mind eating diseases medicine can cure.

But you can prevent it from proper preparation (ie not eating spinal cord or brain tissues). My post wasn't specifically about mad cow though. There will never, ever be 100% testing of animals for diseases (including mad cow) as long as farmers are attempting to make a living.

There is in Japan for mad cow. Every animal is tested and you get MAD COW from eating the meat not the brains and spinal cord. It's the use of the brain and spinal cord in cow feed that transmits the disease to other cattle. They feed the meat to us.
