Remeber when the internet was slow?

I remember getting 4.0 KB/sec on AOHell. WEWTTTT. My $129.99 external 56k modem kicked so much @$$, I could beat my internal 56k modem which did like 3.7 - 3.8 KB/sec only.

MP3 = 20 min. Games? LoLz you would download those rips cuz they were only 150kb.

Then I got TCI@Home and it was 3MB down, 128kbps up, except they forgot to cap the upload and it was 1.5 mbits. I essentially had a T1, except with double the download. When they finally got acquired by AT&T, we got fvcked they capped us to 1.5/128. Comcast took over, kept us there for a bit before going 3mbit/256kbps. Then finally 3mbit/384?. Then 4mbit/384. Supposedly theyre at 6mbit, but I really only get around 5ish mbit at home. Then again I'm in my apartment at school most of the time, and I get pathetic SBC 3mbit/384. (FVCK SBC. Comcast FTW!)

Content has moved to saturate its newfound environment without regard for quality, and IMO, value per unit time expended was probably higher in 1996.

I rememeber when I tried to play a flash game in 95... took 20 minutes to load, and that was on "high speed"! 😛

That probably would have been shockwave (or Java), not Flash.

I paid $12 per hour to compuserve for 300 baud service in the middle eighties and we loved it. How I long for the good old days. 😛

Does it get much nerdier than reminiscing about the "old days" of the Internet?

I'm sure we can kick up the nerd factor a notch or two 😛

I remember I was the first person out of my friends to have a color printer, it was a 9 PIN Dot-Matrix printer! :Q

I wonder what kind of speed residential internet connections will have in another 8 years or so?

Hopefully 30-50GB's under 40 minutes! 😀

Your hard drive can't even write/read that fast!

It will be able to in 8 years! 😉

I had a 10 Meg external hard drive on my Amiga that cost $800, crashed all the time, and needed three hours of formatting every time. I couldn't even boot from it either. I spent all my computer time formatting that sucker. Life was grand.

I first got connected through Prodigy on 2400 baud. I thought it was so cool that 'regular' company had a website - pizzahut

Not bad illusion88, but the games I'm referring to ran under DOS! 😱

I remember when my dad first put in internet, we had to move the computer, because of the power lines, lol. That was in probably 1994. That was when we had the... idk what it was, but it was 100mhz and had a 28.8 modem. Then on Sept. 11/01 mom got high speed installed, i remember that day well u no y. Then on June 28/02 we moved to the middle of no where, Wiarton, ON and we were back on dial-up at 33.1. Then about 9 months later we got high speed again, 3 mb/s. Dad though still on 28.8 at his house and a P200, its a killer comp lol
