I am not sure whats up with HP as I have not owned a new printer for a while but genuine cartridge prices are outrageous.

Are remans any good? I know I have had zero luck refilling at home.

I have no problems with swfit Ink's cartridges in my Canon. Stopped using HP when I moved to Europe and bought a 50 dollar cartridge it was labled for my printer with no notice of region coding . Store would not refund my money and HP wanted me to change the region so the 200 dollars of color ink I hade would be useless . Took the splitting maul to the printer. by by HP.

In my mind, its time to point one fact, most HP and Lexmart printer have the printhead on the cartridge itself.

While Cannon and Epson's have a far more expensive and long lasting printhead not on the cartridge itself. So in that sense, Canon and Epson's use ink tanks that are far easier to refill and totally re manufacture.

But if you try to refill the other types, you are always gambling that the cheap foil cartridge itself will even last past its first use.

Of course chips now make the questions ever more complex.

As I also ask, why take a splitting maul to your HP inkjet when they make such cute flower pots?

Never heard of a "region code" on a HP printer. But their ink does have an expiration date and while it usually will still be fine, in some cases, it just won't work. Had one cartridge, that while it was still in the factory wrap, was past the date and would not print. I did not try to clean the printhead, but it may have helped. Also, most of the newer HP printers, starting about 3 years ago, started using ink tanks, with the printhead inside the printer and not on the cartridge. Makes it easier to just refill the one or two colors that are low and much less costly. But you do need to replace the printheads every 30K - 40K pages or so.

I haven't had good luck with refurbished printer cartridges. They clog up more than the OEM cartridges, and I can only get about 50 pages out of them before they run out.

Oh... and they occasionally leak. That makes a hell of a mess.
