Remanufactured Inkjet Cartridges: Good or Bad

Has anyone out there tried remanufactured inkjet cartridges? If so, what is your experience with them? My HP DJ 960c uses their 78 color cartridge which goes for over $ 50.00 at Costco vs a remfg cart available online for $23.95. But its no bargin if it might louse up my computer.

 
I`ve been using compatible inkjet carts for my Epson printers(600 and now C70 for over 3 years) & never had any problems,the ink quality I`ve found is very good on compatible brands and I`ve tried quite a few, which has saved me lots of money over the real Epson ink carts.




 
My experience with remanufactured cartridges happened 5 years ago or so, and maybe the inks have gotten better, maybe not. Anyway, I had a Canon BJC-600 (really nice printer for its time), and the cartridges were $40 for all four colors. I decided to try remanufactured inks, which I bought at a local computer store. When the yellow ink ran out, I refilled it, make sure there was no leakage, and tried to use it. The yellow ink doesn't work anymore. I've decided that paying the extra money for a genuine cartridge is worth it - at least then I can blame the company if the printer fails.

If your printer is under warranty I wouldnt use them. If it gets damaged as a result of leakage it will void your warranty. Im sure there are compatible replacements, but refills I am very cautious about because I have seen utter destruction of a printer with them.

Its one of those at your own risk ventures.
 
No guys, remanufactured cartridges aren't refills. Remanufactured cartrides are a whole cartridge you buy where someone else does the refilling before it gets to you.

I have the same printer (960C) and I'm also curious about using remanufactured cartridges. Some of the Staples' remanufactured cartridges are very cheap compared to the HP cartridges.

I used to be an HP rep. Just so you know, a remanufactured cart will NOT void your warranty. They will try to play that game BUT you can sue if they refuse warranty service. How could they ever know you were using one anyways?

As for refills, I am not to sure about warranties on this issue. I think that if you try to refill the cart and do it wrong leading to the destruction of your printer, you are out of luck.

 
Also own a 990 (960 w/duplexer). Ive been refilling and it has been working out pretty good. You might want to consider
refilling your existing cart's, its alot cheaper but can be a pain, depends on your technical ability.
The worst that can happen is you ruin a cartridge and waste some ink.
HP's have the print heads built into the cartridges so no worries (ie Epson) about damage to the printer itself.

You can usually get 4 refills out of a cartridge before it goes bad, but some people get up to 8+ refills. It depends on the kit
you use. I bought my kit through a Canadian company but I hear this place
ink refills offers a better kit that uses a method that extends the life of your cartridges.

At least most of the people in comp.periphs.printers think so (not associated with company, just hear its HP kits are superior).

Cost is around $8 per refill.
 
If you do a lot of printing. Ditch the HP and get a Canon S750. The BCI-3s refill easy or you can buy generic cartridges for $3-$4. You'll go broke buying HP cartridges or crazy trying to fill them. Been there done that.
