I live in Orlando, but I'll be moving to Denver for a new job in the next few weeks.
Since the company isn't willing to pay relocation, it'll be out-of-picket for me...but that's gonna suck, especially with a truck rental and towing-platform for my car. A guy I work with told me that relocating for a new job can be written off in taxes, so long as I save receipts for things like gas, hotel, food, rental trucks, etc...
Two questions then:
1) Is this true? Some other people have told me it is...but I figure there's got to be someone on ATOT who's had experience with this.
2) I won't be movnig straight from Orlando to Denver. I have to first drive up to Wisconsin to grab some stuff from my folks' house, and then on to Denver afterwards. Can I write off both trips, as it's all part of the process for me to relocate?
Thanx for any help/info.
