 Live 30 Mins North of Charlotte. Nice Big city, lots of places around there to go. Busy though!

Loving it here in Charlotte, I think there's a few AT'ers here. Where are you moving from, and what job will you be taking here?

FWIW, I remember talking to someone about a year ago about moving to CLT from CA. The money he would have spent on a shack in CA bought a palace here. I cleared out my PM's b/c I was running out of space, but whoever it was, I hope you're enjoying it here (maybe you'll see this thread too).

Florida, Programming, I would hate to disclose to much in depth information on a public forum ;)

No problem. I turned down a job in Ft. Lauderdale to stay here, even with a decent raise, it still would be astronomically more expensive to live in FL.

Your money goes a long way here, and it is a good place for families. Mountains 2 hours away, beaches 3 hours away, lots of land, etc.

Wife and I want a kid one day, and felt like it would be better to raise them here than in S. Florida.

I grew up there. It's a nice place. I now live in Raleigh and like it better, but Charlotte is a bigger city.

I liked the restaurants(compared to the RDU area), and overall I think the city has more flavor than, again, RDU, but I thought the traffic was a pain, and I got my car broken into twice and I got laid off while in CLT(in a year), and I've been turning down every job interview from that area ever since getting the fvck out of there.

Pros: Beautiful weather, nice new clean city. Despite what the locals think, traffic isn't as bad as a major metro area. 3 hours from the ocean, 3 hours from the mountains. The Panthers rock, and there's not a bad seat in the entire stadium. Quite a few attractions downtown and fairly safe. Most residents are transplants from somewhere else. Brand spanking new basketball arena.

Cons: Roads laid out by heavily drugged teenagers (check out the intersection of Queens and Queens - also watch for Sharon Lakes, Sharon Road, Sharon View and several other Sharon roads). Crime and taxes climbing and will continue to climb for the forseeable future. Schools aren't so great and are unlikely to improve. Extra .5% sales tax in Mecklenburg County. "Smart Growth" mindset throughout government (high density housing, anti "urban sprawl" and mass transit). Basketball costs a bundle for tickets and the team sucks.
