Reloading Hardware in Windows 98se ?

I would like to upgrade a motherboard on a windows 98se system without having to reload windows. In the past with windows 95 you could delete a registry key that contained the hardware settings, making windows reinstall the hardware. Doing this allowed a clean install of the hardware without getting muliple hardware entries (new and old). It's been a long time since I've done this and I don't know if you can still do this with windows 98se nor can I remember the particular registry key. If anyone has any suggestions or better yet answers 🙂, I'd realy appreciate it. I'm trying to do a suprise upgrade for someone as a gift, but I don't want to wipe out thier programs or files in the proccess by doing a wipe and clean install of the harddisk.(yes I will be backing up the entire disk before I try anything🙂

I would just replace the mbd and boot into Windows and let PnP take its course. If that don't work out, then boot into Safe Mode and remove PCI Bus in Device Manager. This will prompt Windows to redetect everything.
