Reloaded Windows XP Home on new HD: No desktop icons even though show desktop icons is checked

Go to the display properties and under "Desktop" there is a button called Customize or Advanced or something.

Check and see if the icons are checked. Trying to do this from memory because this machine is 2K.

If you don't want to use the classic menu but still have the icons, click on the Start menu, then on the large icons on the right for My Computer, etc., right-click and choose Show on Desktop.

New problem:

Hard drive: reloaded windows on new hard drive and put it as the primary. The original HD went as secondary. However it still shows as the C drive. The new hard drive shows as F (D & E) are CD-RON and CD-RW). Should I take out the old drive and reload windows again on the new hard? Will that make it C instead of F?

I kept the old hard drive to copy my files to the new hard drive.

Both hard drives are Maxtor.

I made sure that the new hard drive is the primary and the old hard drive is the secondary. The fresh install of windows booted to the new hard drive.

Should I just take out the old hard drive and reinstall windows on the new hard drive?
