I wouldn't be offended, I'd just think you're an idiot for going out of your way in a blatant attempt to piss off religious people who MIGHT get offended.

"HURRRRRRR LOOK I HAVE DARWIN FISH ON MY CAR! GET IT? JESUS IS FAKE LOLZ HURR HURR"

Granted, I feel the same way (that is,
rolleye.gif
) about people who have 10,000 Jesus is Lord bumper stickers on their car too, so it's a two way street.

I have given your original question more thought.........

Here some fresh ideas to kick around.

Why don't you try your luck making fun of the Star of David, or if your real spunky maybe the Koran/Mohamed,

Hey try this, go into a fast food joint, wait until you see some huge football player type and ask him "Excuse me is it ok if I call your sister fat?"........

How're you going to do that? Draw the Star of David with horns or something? :p

How does the Fish stand for Religion, anyway?

Regardless, so the fish with legs stands for Darwinism. What's the big deal? ;)

When will you religious folks realize that you're no different than anybody else?

Are those available without "Darwin" written in them? Maybe one with "science" or "truth" and you can have it eating one with a cross.

He believes in evolution.
Basically, its taking a christian symbol, the fish, and mocking it. Its the mockery that is offensive.
Its not offensive to announce that you believe in evolution, its offensive to mock the people with jesus fish on their cars.
And people who put the darwin things on their cars know that its somewhat offensive. Otherwise its just stupid.
Would you put a sticker on your car that just says "I believe in evolution"?

Why would you put on your car a fish with the word JESUS in it that just says "I believe in Jesus?"
You are missing the point. Its completely understandable to be proud of being a christian... right? If you believe you owe your existence to someone else, it seems reasonable that a bumper sticker or a little emblem could accurately show your pride or gratitude or whatever you feel.

But for people with the darwin fish its a completely different situation.
The darwin thing isn't showing your pride because you believe in the fact of evolution... it is directly mocking christians in general and even more specifically the creation theory. Also, just because someone puts a jesus fish on their car it doesn't mean they don't believe in evolution also.
Whether you realize it or not, people take offense and draw conclusions on that kind of thing.
I just know how hard it is for people to think outside of their box and see other people's perspectives..
I didn't understand until someone explained it to me.
But still, the darwin fish is obviously designed to offend christians who believe in creation.

1) You're missing the point, thilly.

2) Back when Christians were still being jailed, killed, fed to lions, etc. they would identify each other by drawing one half of the fish. If the other person too was Christian they would more than likely know to draw the other half thus identifying one another as fellow Christians.

3) It's a mildly immature display of mockery.

4) NevAr!1!!

Just because I believe in evolution doesn't dissallow me from also believing in a certain degree of creationism. You want me to step out of my box? Try stepping out of yours first. I'm more open to differing opinions/beliefs than the vast majority of people currently calling this planet home. All people, religious or not, get offended too damn easily these days. I can see how the fish would be offensive, and some people would display a darwin fish just to be offensive. Why? - its their form of protest from CONSTANT displays of christianity. I can't drive for 5 minutes in the south without seeing a billboard and/or bumper sticker praising a god/Jesus.

It's not exactly challenging nor time-consuming.

I didn't say that you can't believe in evolution and creation at the same time... in fact I said its possible in my post.

You don't understand why they are getting offended. That doesn't mean that they get offended "too easily"
I can't wrap my head around what it would be like to be a woman and be called a whore, but that doesn't mean women are too easily offended by the word. Its an example, but a ton of christians feel VERY strongly about god... Its a part of their identity.

You point out yourself that the darwin fish is a form of protest against christians putting jesus paraphernalia on their cars.

Guess what protest does... it offends someone. Thats my only point here.

I'm not arguing that the south is very jesus-friendly, I'm saying that many christians will take offense at the darwin fish.

i have fish like that, that is holding little wrench, and it says "Evolve" in the middle...

IMHO the point of these is to poke fun at the religious right / fundamentalists that take everything so darn seriously....
