What kind of measures should we take to protect ourselves from an invasion by Mongolians? After all, history shows they are a formidable and expansionist. According to your logic, they are about the same threat as a country like China.

A more sane approach is to realize that --gasp-- things change over time. The vast majority of Christianity has completely moved on from the middle-ages in terms of murder and mayhem. Meanwhile, much of Islam is still stuck in its own dark age.

You probably wouldn't get so much of that if you didn't try to make every issue into one of racial\religious\ethnic discrimination.
