Seems to me that it can be compared with an art. You either appreciate it, or you don't. Thoughts?

You could say "you either appreciate it or you don't" about a lot of things. Anyway, the similarity ends pretty quickly because few people look at a painting and say, "well you shouldn't be able to drink liquor because I think this neo-classical sculpture rocks."

My thought it that this thread is going to get very dangerous, very fast.

As for religion, I think everyone's reasons are different, and thus my support for individual freedoms. I do have to say that I am rather confused by the evangelicals that attempt to legislate their beliefs - freedom is what allows them to hold and follow their beliefs in the first place. By hindering it, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Anyway, in before lock.

Seems more closely related to a philosophy.

I see religion as more like a Fart. Not much substance, and it sometimes has a foul aroma, but it may also offer some relief or make you feel better when you're under pressure. :p

Why should there be a lock?

I think they're just pointing out this is the kind of thread that can easily lead to hysterics and therefore a lock. The same could be said about most of P&N threads. Nothing that you have posted so far is worthy of a lock.

I suppose it could eventually lead to a lock because somebody says something stupid, but yeah...I'm just wondering if anybody else sees it the way I do.

IMHO, in the past (maybe even now?) religion functioned as a preserver of rituals in different cultures, and in the case of "Judeo-Christian" religions, it also functioned as a means of influencing their population to comply to behave in ways approved by those cultures, and sometimes to gather recruits for war.
