Religion: Islam, Christianity and Judiasm.

What do they have in common? What is different? Aren't all these religions linked in some way? If you read the Quran it mentions everyone from the Bible. Jesus is a prophet in the Quran and not the son of good. Isn't Judiasm and Islam very similar?

I don't know much about religion .. trying to learn. So please correct me as I go along.

are you aiming to stir things up? 😉

yes, you're right. they all say essentially the same thing except they were revealed by different people at different times.

it should be noted that their greatest divergences came LONG after the death of their respective prophets when humans had interpreted the original texts and liturgy of the religion as they saw fit.

Might want to search the archives here a bit. You'll find some very informative flame fests!

They are all monotheistic and share a common root of Abraham. The splits occur in that Christians believe Jesus Christ was the messiah and son of God. Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet and that Mohammed was the last and greatest of the prophets and that the Koran is the true and complete word of God. Or at least that is how I understand it in it's basics.

you know, i was so close to not entering this thread, but then i was like what the hell, lets have some fun.

i figured the other ATOTers would put this thread in its place.

Not to piss any Muslims off or anything, but the Quran was written by one man, Muhammad. The Holy Bible was written by 40 or so authors....

So basically, if Abraham was smokin some grass back then, the whole religion is basically Null and Void. 😀

Ok, ok... so I over simplified it..... and the Quran wasn't COMPLETELY written by Muhammad... but you get the idea.

All 3 religions share the Old Testiment though.... so yes, they are all the same up to that point. The differences (and fighting) came when they decided on who would be "God's favorite apostle". 😀

My age? 21... what does that have to do with anything?

Is there any proof that any of these religions are right, or no?

That is what the word "faith" is for. And no.... there is no "proof" that any religion is "right".

Umm, the Quran was written by Muhammad, NOT Abraham... Abraham didn't write squat. Moses supposedly wrote the 1st 5 books of the Bible.

One man yes but that man was Mohammed who lived between 570 to 632 AD.

No more so than any other religion. They all have their miracles and devoted followers and zealous fanatics.

Do a search, this has been covered here many, many times.

Okay, well .. why do a lot of people hate Jews? Is it because most of them are succesful or is it a religious reason?

I started this thread because I just read the Quran. I didn't like anything I read because it kept telling me to be very afraid of God (do all religions say this?). It kept saying God is great and all powerful like in every paragraph (I don't like that part it just sounds like any king back in the old days trying to tell everyone he was all powerful and dangerous to make people worship him). It also made it seem like men are more superior than women. It doesn't mention any "killing" people or anything in it, but it does say if one is not Muslim to try to convert them. It doesn't say people who are not Muslim are going to hell, but it does say if you have tried to learn about Islam and do not believe in it then God will not forgive you. It accepts Christianity and Judiasm, but it says those people do not know any better and will be shown the truth after this life.

I don't believe in Islam (I am not bashing Muslims. I respect you for your beliefs as you could very well be right). I am just trying to figure out if there is a religion out there I can accept. I never learned about religion and my parents never told me anything about it either. All I knew was that there was a God and he/she/it was watching over all of us.

I just believe if you were told what to believe in at an early age you will most likley believe in that religion very strongly. For me it wasn't the case. I am 21 and I get to make up my mind and not 6 having my parents tell me what is right.

I havn't read the Bible, but I'm going to start soon and see what I think.
