Reliable Socket A MB for Suse 7.1

I would like to know if anyone knows of a reliable Socket A motherboard for Suse Linux. I have tried it on an MSI K7T Pro2A without success. I have a Mylex/BusLogic Flashpoint LW SCSI card, an UW Seagate Barracuda, and a Maxtor IDE drive. I tried booting the Suse installer on the computer with and without each of those components without success. I tried the installer on my old PC (AMD K6 200MHz, Intel 430TX Chipset, Voodoo Rush, IDE HDD, IDE CD-ROM drive), and it worked flawlessly. I also tried the old PC with the SCSI card, the Barracuda, and the SiS 6320 video card from the MSI machine, and the installer worked.

I assume the problem was the VIA chipset on the MSI board. Is there a known incompatibility with the VIA chipset and Suse Linux? Would the new AMD 761 chipset solve the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.
