I need to add some network ports in a couple of rooms in a small office. Running more wires isn't a realistic option since the original installer did not run the existing drops inside conduit.

So, I'm in the market for a few decent four port gigabit switches. I know I could just go grab some off of a shelf somewhere but I'd like to get some suggestions for good options that are decently reliable but not terribly expensive (under $50 would be preferable).

Unmanaged switches aren't too complicated and you should be good with any brand name. I have stuck with TP-Link, D-Link and NetGear and they have all performed about the same. Never had one that didn't do its job.

This is the one on my network right now. It's 8 ports instead of 5, but you can never have too many ports.

Need 4 ports and want something semi-managed? DLink DGS1100-5. I have one in my media center and it works great. Uber low power. Not the best management page, but it isn't terrible and it gives you some nice semi-managed features, like link aggregation, spanning tree, etc.

Otherwise, I'd just look at a TP-Link, DLink, Netgear, etc. 5 port switch. Within vague reason, they are also going to be pretty darned similar and most probably use the same switch chipset within them, or one of 2-3 different ones. I'd go more on price or form factor over anything like "brand" for something as simple as a 4-5 port dumb gigabit switch.
