Reliable Laptops?

My girlfriend is in the market for a new laptop, for when she goes back to school. Her mom will pay extra money for the lappy so I figured it would be good for her to get a decent one. She wants a Sony or an Apple, both of which I don't think are right for her. I hate Sony so it's on principle I won't buy one (or let her!) and the Apple is going to be totally different than what she is used to. I know it's easy, but explaining MS Office is hard enough under windows with two mouse buttons.. telling her to "HOLD CTRL AND CLICK" is going to be a nightmare.

Anyhoo, I'm open for suggestions on which laptop would be good. I like HP as a company for their servers (that's what I manage at work) and I am not a huge fan of Dell but they are cheap. Since her mom is paying, I think the budget is <$1500.

Please let me know what you think! Perhaps a Lenovo? Those are always popular 🙂

Lenovos are great. But, why not post this on the Laptop forum (SFF, Notebooks, etc.) ?

Acer makes really nice laptops. We have some HP aptops here at work and they have been reliable as buisness PC's. I've never dealt with Lenovo before, so I wouldn't know about them.

What I do know is I have a few friends that all own Acer laptops. All i've heard from them are positive remarks. Also, the screens are VERY nice. They have a glossy finish and that really helps bring out bright colors.

If she is only using it for school (no gaming, photo / video editing, encoding). You can bu solid laptops now for $800 bucks. But if her Mom is paying for it, then hell go all out!

Happy buying,

Ryan

Dells seem to be tough enough. I've had a few, all lasted well.

I sold this one used Dell to someone who has beat the crap out of it and somehow the thing still runs.

I had my girlfriend get the X61 with a 3 year warranty.... this way if anything breaks, she doesn't have to worry about it too much 🙂
