hello there! I've been looking for an internal card reader for some time now but most of them on places like newegg are made by companies I have never heard of. I need something reliable, so I did not pull the trigger on one of these random internal card readers. Can anyone suggest a reliable internal card reader with a black bezel that has good reviews? Thanks.

Before I can recommend a card reader to you, I need to know if your Shuttle has a standard 9-pin USB header or the two proprietary, white, 1x5-pin USB headers found in almost all Shuttles. If your Shuttle has only the proprietary headers, you'll need to get Shuttle's own branded card reader OR you're going to have to call Shuttle to get adapters (proprietary on one end and standard 5-pin on the other end).

What Flash card formats do you need to be able to read? I have an unused YE Data 8V07 ver.2 combination floppy drive/flash card reader for sale, but it can read just the more common ones: SD, compact flash, multimedia card, Memory Stick/Pro, Smart Media, microdrive. I've updated it to the latest firmware so it may read a few more types but I haven't been able to find out for sure. Here is the specs page for the latest version - this one may read all those formats or just the basic seven. It can hook to either a standard 0.1" spaced pin header (4 or 5-pin - only 4 of the pins are actually used anyway) or a standard USB socket. These are much better than the similar Mitsumi units. PM me if interested. It has a beige bezel, but can easily be painted or dyed black - I can do that for a small charge.

This is the support page so you can see the physical difference between the models. The only real difference I can tell btween the ver.2 and ver.3 units is the layout of the card slots.

This is not too bad and handles about all types of removable memory

As to connecting it into the computer, if you do have the proprietary connector for USB and you can't
get or figure out the pinouts to make it work with the card reader, then if you have a spare pci slot,
just add a USB / Firewire card ... you will get more ports to use and most of them have a Header for
Internal Connection to things like a card reader

You need to know which type of USB header your Shuttle has before going out to buy an internal card reader. If your Shuttle has the proprietary headers, you can't just buy any card reader unless you call Shuttle first to get the adapters.

Presuming you have a 4 pin USB Header in the Shuttle then the pinouts become:

VCC will go to the red wire.
Data (-) will go to the white wire.
Data (+) will go to the green wire.
GND will go to the black wire.

These are the wires coming from the USB harness and are pretty standard
You can easily ID VCC & Ground with a Digital Multimeter
Hopefully the motherboard has stenciling on it to id the pins
