Reliabilty of onboard temp readings?

Been monitoring my temperatures and I'm not liking what I'm seeing. I have my tbird 850 overclocked to 1000(7.5x133) with a globalwin FOP32-1 and arctic silver for cooling. At idle I'm getting a CPU temp of 49C. When I crank up quake III for an extended amount of time I'm getting 55C. My cases ambiant temperature is 28C.

I even reseated the CPU and heatsink and I got the same temps. From what I understand, the FOP32-1 is a fairly decent cooler and should be plenty enough for a tbird 1000. And yes I feel my case has enough ventalation. I even removed the side panel to be sure and it only lowered the CPU temp 2 degrees to 47C.

That's why I'm wondering if my K7T Turbo is not reporting accurate temps. I've got a decent cooling system and a case that has the sides off and my idle temp is 47C. It doesn't sound right to me. What do you guys think?

seem kinda high, what is the voltage ?
I would think that you are not getting an accurate temp from the board.
If you touch the heatsink is it warm to the touch ??

I have a somewhat small/bad airflow case... nad I've been getting the following readings:

With side of case off:
Ambient = 26C
CPU = 46C

With side of case on:
Ambient = 29C
CPU = 49C

These readings are just after playing Unreal, using windows normally, whatever.

I have a T-Bird 850, no O/C, 1.75V. An Iwill KK266 MB. And a Volcano II HSF. So, I'm seeing about the same as you, although I thought they'd be lower too. I wish it was lower by about 6 or 7 degrees... becuase I'm itching to O/C.

I've got the voltage set at 1.775V. The heatsink is just luke warm. Feels slightly warmer than ambient temperature.

I think the K7T-Turbo 'reads high' on temps with the in-socket thermistor. I have a T-bird 700@850, with a Taisol 742 hs/fan and using Artic Silver. I'm reading about 41C idle, which is higher than the same cpu on my Pro2a with a crappy Chrome Orb. I have the feeling that the Turbo boards display temps higher than comparable boards.

Check this out. I downloaded CPUilde and it only cooled the CPU down 1 degree from normal idle temperature. That makes me think it's a temperature reading error because if a halt command was issued to the CPU shouldn't it cool it down close to the ambient temperature of the case? Which in my case would be the high 20's.

What do you think?
