they have transmission problems.

I say 48k

Are you saying you think they have transmission problems around 50k or do you know of a specific vehicle having problems at 48k? Manual or automatic? Please elaborate, if you can.

There have been numerous automatic transmission failures for the mazda 3.
In fact I believe someone on this forum had a transmission failure at around 30k.

manual I haven't heard of any failures.

5 Spd FTW :D

here here :D

I believe before Mazda came out with the 6 speed auto, they had some problems with the transmission (that were manufactured in good ol' Mexico). As well as faulty PCV valves on a few 05' models that leaked oil. Many people also frowned upon the exhaust which had a pre-cat that sometime sucked dirt and other impurities from the exhaust back into the engine.

Though everything from 06' on up fixed all of that. The Mazda 06' and Mazda 07' are pretty solid cars.

Do you intend to keep the car for 10 years?

With a Honda, there's usually no good reason NOT to. Cheap insurance, outstanding reliability, easy to find parts for, etc, etc. Buying cars every 2-5 years is silly to me, of course it's SOP for many.

I love the internet. Some random person can come on here, post something out of left field like "they have numerous transmission failures" or "I say 48k", with no supporting data. Then, even better, someone who already has the car and hasn't had a problem posts that maybe they should get rid of theirs.

Yeah, get rid of yours because some random dude on ATOT says so...LOL.

who said this? they are probably just saying it just to ponder about it. the truth is that the automatic in the 3 is not that great. just look at the edmunds forums and see all the complaints about it.

You know my brother has spent way more money on his 93 Acura Integra keeping it on the road than I have with my 94 Corsica with similar miles.
Both are still running strong BTW
Gawd, people worry too much about that stuff, the vehicles I used to drive from the 70's would have ya'll in quivering heaps to even consider driving out of your parking stall ;)

"people also frowned upon the exhaust which had a pre-cat that sometime sucked dirt and other impurities from the exhaust back into the engine."
wow, that cant be more untrue if i didnt know it myself, my car has 3 cats, TWO PRE-cats, and one main, and its been running for 170k miles, and its a ROTARY. and i know its still good for another 30-60k miles easy. goes to show you experience probly knows better.

edit: its a thing called timing, valves only open at certain points, i would think the designers only allow it to open when the exhaust gases are only going out.

Well then consider it a rumor, it's only what I read from a few members over at mazda6forums.com
