I'm googling, but not finding much. Actually I find a lot but I'm not sure what's relevant.

If given a drop down to select your political affiliation, what are some of the choices you'd like to see? Not just parties, but ideologies as well (such as liberal)

Democrat
Liberal
Republican
Conservative
Independant
Tea Party

Any others?

I would strike liberal, as it has become a conflicted term, and replace it with progressive (as an ideology, not a party). You should also include libertarian, and Libertarian Party - those are two separate and distinct things, one is an ideology, one is a party. Conservative, Tea Party, and Republican I believe blur together a bit, and would require a little expansion of the terms.

As an alternative way to view it:
Economic (Fiscal) Issues
Social Issues
National Security

Then range from conservative to liberal, or in the case of national security... I'm not sure what terms I'd use there. Non-interventionist to extensive involvement? *shrug*

Note: this is all for USA terminology only. I have no information to input for other countries.

IMO liberal doesn't mean anything really anymore, progressive is a much better term when speaking of ideology. Hell, I am extremely socially liberal, but have been labelled a neocon by the forum hacks, go figure.

Summary
Party: Democrat
Overall Ideology: Paleoconservatism
Social Ideology: Right
Economic Ideology: Center-right

Longer answer:
Social
I would delegate the vast majority of social legislation to the state level. If one state wants to be a liberal wonderland, go for it, if another state's residents want to turn their state into a highly socially-conservative area (by Western Standards), more power to them. I generally favor center-right social legislation at the state level, but I will not push my ideology on other states.

Economic
I am a bit more progressive here, I would not cut taxes for the rich or the middle class. I would balance the budget and streamline the tax code to the point where the IRS would no longer be required (in its current form), which would likely be the most fiscally conservative things I would do. After that, the funds will flow to education, scientific endeavors, public works (like Yucca Mountain, hydroelectric dams, particle accelerators, etc.), space exploration and defense R&D at the cost of traditional social welfare programs.

Unless it's broken down into issues, I don't see it working for too many people. For example, I identify highly with the left on environmental and some civil rights issues, highly with the right on fiscal/economic and defense (including illegal immigration) issues, highly with the libertarians on social issues. I'm a FairTax proponent and highly opposed to the progressives' protected classes, but also accept affirmative action when based on circumstances rather than just skin color. I'm a big proponent of domestic energy production, but also of heavily funding solar and safer nuclear research, and I also have no problem with an endangered lizard or darter stopping a drilling project or other major program. How could you ever fairly represent me (or any other complex, thinking person) with a single tab? I think such a tab would only identify those persons who are so doctrinaire for one side and/or party that everyone already knows exactly where they stand on any issue before they even show up.
