Releasing/Renewing IP increases my internet speed 10x?

Hey everyone... I'm on the ResNet connection here at school... and earlier today my connection was CRAWLING. Usually I can pull 50KB/s (sad, I know) on a good day, which means webpages load decently fast. I was getting ticked tough... so I just did a simple release/renew in ipconfig. Lo and behold, I'm now dling at 500KB/s .

Any ideas why? Also, I don't think I'm *supposed* to be getting these speeds, as everyone else in my dorm never pulls over 100KB/s.

you probably got that IP capped, although I would think that they would track/cap based on mac

That was my thought too. OP - are you actually getting a different IP address when you release/renew. Unless your DHCP range is maxed and is constantly getting bombarded with new requests chances are that you will be handed the same IP that you had if you release and renew sequentially with no significant time elapsed.

Well, now that you got the good speeds, don't shut down your computer or you'll lose it. ;) Did you happen to notice if you got the same IP back after you renewed or if you got a new one?
