Release Date for 9600 XT?

I was getting ready to buy a 9600 Pro when I heard about the new 9600 XT for $200.00. Does anyone know when this card will be available? How much better will it be than a 9600 Pro?

All the recent reviews said that it would be shipping in October. However, you can buy the 9800XT at ATI's web site already, but you can only pre-order the 9600XT. I have yet to find a retail or online store talking about selling the 9600XT, so I would expect it to be at the end of October at the earliest.

Not that I have seen. You can look at some of the o/c scores of the 9600 Pro to get a good idea of what the 9600 XT is capable of.

I've been searching online stores as well and I haven't found anything either. I did notice you can preorder both the 9800XT and 9600XT at ATI but it doesn't mention anything about HL2 being included so I'm a bit reluctant to preorder.

If I only have to wait until the end of the month then it's not a big deal.

Is the 9600XT any better than the 9800 Pro?

No. The 9800XT will beat the 9600 XT. In fact the 9800 and 9700 series (excepting the neutered 9800 SE) should beat the 9600 XT. There is a bit of debate on whether the 9700 series will beat the 9600 XT given Anand's recent comments, but I think it will.

The 9600 XT is better than the 9600 Pro, but the Pro is available now, the XT is not.
