Relay Racks (19" Rack Mount)

I had no idea these things were so expensive! Does anyone have any tips on making a rack myself? It seems that even buying the rails separately is expensive. I need this for a home wiring project I'm working on and it is only going to be holding a patch panel, router, etc, so it doesn't need to be super strong to support heavy equipment or anything like that.

1. buy metal
2. buy welder
3. weld metal together, making sure it's 19" apart
4. drill holes
5. tap holes

Viola, you got a rack. 😛

i'm doing the same

but i think i'm just going to mount the patch panel on the ceiling and install a shelf for the modem, router and switch

What's your definition of expensive? I bought my 6' rack on ebay for ~$80 shipped.

That's not too bad but I had in mind something like $20 here. I would like to just buy some pre tapped rails and mount those on some wood.

Can't you just use angle iron from Home Depot. The kind with screw holes X" on center. You could always drill your own scres though. just buy some angle iron and bolts.

Nev err done it, but I figure that would work fine
