Relative Path?

I? reading some Linux tutorial. I cannot get one term ?relative path?. What is relative path? For example if I?m in home/mike/bin directory and want to go to home/john/bin directory what is relative path here?

Thanks in advance

A relative path is one that is not 'rooted' at some specific location but is based on where you currently are. For example the path /home/mike/bin it not relative, but if you wanted to move to /home/john/bin FROM /home/mike/bin you would need to move up two directories and then back down 2. That movement would be relative to where you started. So ../../john/bin would be a relative path moving you from the mike directory to the john directory.
