I currently have Sennheiser HD 280 headphone
,which is plugged into headset slot in my 5.1 logitech speaker.
( the speaker itself is plugged into Creative x-fi soundcard.)

here is my question.

if I hook the sennheiser headset onto new 2.1 channel speaker's headset slot, will I be able to still hear the same sound quality? ( that new 2.1 channel speaker will also be plugged into creative x-fi )

(I can't plug my headset directly into soundcard since the cord length is too short )

Should be no difference in sound quality. The same signal runs throughout the system. If you prefer to connect directly to the sound card, why not just get an extension cable at Radio Shack or something similar?

If the headset are better quality thent he speakers they you could get better sound quality with the headset.

Plugging your headphones in to your sound card directly will give the best sound quality, since the signal is amplified while passing through the speakers and the quality of the amp on most PC speakers is not good.

I can almost guarantee that the headphone circuit on any PC speakers is going to be poor. Like even those ART headphone amp boxes they have - those sound muddy, distorted... I went with a Samson C-que 8 to power my headphones, which is the cheapest I could find that sounded good. It's a 4-channel headphone amp with 1/4" TRS inputs and 8 headphone outputs.

You're probably better off with an extension cord from the back of your computer. It's a lot easier and cheaper than making that internal front-panel cable assembly. Just don't buy an extension that is too long or too cheap because you will notice a negative difference.

To plug in directly to the back of the box I'd have to get/make a channel switch to shut off my speakers when using headphones, and vice-versa. That's the main reason I use my speaker volume module to plug in headphones, don't know about anyone else.

I have to do that too. I have my headphones plugged in all the time but the volume down. When I want to use headphones, I shut off my speaker amp and turn up the headphone channel on the C-que 8... YOU CANNN DOOO ET!
