Reinstate Free Parking at Bay Street Emeryville

For those of you who live in the East Bay Area (NorCal) and shop, eat, and watch movies at Bay Street Emeryville, you may have noticed that they recently started charging for parking, causing huge backups in traffic and headaches for consumers who already have to wait in lines at the stores. I posted here because I know a lot of you are Cal students (as I was a few years ago) and hopefully I can count on your support.

I am a resident of Emeryville and I started an online petition to encourage management to reinstate free parking at Bay Street Emeryville.

Reinstate Free Parking at Bay Street Emeryville

If you agree with this petition, please sign the petition to show your support and SPREAD THE WORD! I am trying to get the news media involved in this, but having a 10 hour day job is making it difficult - so if you have any connections to the local media (SF Chronicle, Oakland Tribune, Daily Cal, Contra Costa Times, etc) please let me know.

If you want to help flier and spread the word through other means like talking to people, let me know. Let's see if a grass-roots movement can effect change in a small town like Emeryville. (Hey, we kept Pixar here on the Nov 2 ballot, we can surely cause changes with the parking situation!)

how much do they charge? i've only driven by there.

no, the ikea parking lot is seperate. the bay street garage is a little north of ikea, IIRC.

They're charging very little, actually - which is why it is even more ridiculous that they're charging because they're clearly not trying to increase revenues from parking alone. All they've done is cause shopping headaches due to parking lines in addition to lines in the stores and turn off customers who shopped their due to the free parking.

Hi, that is correct. Bay Street is north of Ikea and is the little strip of shops and restaurants, anchored by AMC theaters.

when did they start charging? That is absolutely ridiculous, I can't imagine the backup, on weekends there already are backups without the fee.

They started charging as of last Wednesday 11/3. The backups were HORRIBLE on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this past weekend. People were waiting along Shellmound way for 10 minutes just to get into the garage, if not more.
