Going to reinstall XP because of a virus, if i just reformat hard drive with partition magic would that really clear any virus or should i also reformat the master boot record?

if yes whats the way to reformat the master boot record

You should check the Hard drive manufacturer's website. They usually have tools that will boot into a DOS-ish environment, and let you perform the operations... check you hard drive's label for the manufacturer's web site.

FIXMBR from the repair console command line. I dont know about your utility disc that was included with your hardrive since I never use them and toss them in the trash when unpacking the drive.
