reinstalling xp pro

I have a dell xps and have been running win2k prof for about 1 year on it.

2 days ago, when trying to boot up it said i was missing a dll file and i couldnt get into windows. well i tried to repair the OS but that didnt work.
I was thinking about just reinstalling it but was concerned that it would erase my mydocuments files that i want to retrieve.
If i install xppro will that erase my files (assuming of course that i dont format the drive)?

Additionally when i was trying to repair windows it told me that it couldnt copy certain files. If i skipped the file it wouldnt be able to copy the next file. Any idea what went wrong with my computer.

I do run avg and have both spybot and spyware blaster running in windows and were fully updated.

If you have a spare Drive laying around, I'd put that in, make it the Master and Install XP on it. From there you should probably be able to retrieve your Docs/Files.

For the cost of some HD's these days, it might almost be cheaper to go that route versus some pricey Software that you may only use once. The HD you can always use for extra storage 🙂
