Reinstalling Xp Clean on Dell Laptop

I have a Dell Laptop 1100 which came with XP Home. I tried to clean the hard drive and reinstall XP again cleanly that way all the Dell junk would be out and save space.

Well clean the hard drive and put the XP home disk that came and i never got asked for a CD key and two i never got asked for a user name, so the xp system starts up with the account as "Owner"

anyone know a way around this?

That's normal because Dell uses, amongst other things, an OEM version of Windows that has your key number embedded in the Restore CD.
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Users & Passwords -> Create a new account with the name you want.
Log into the new account, and do the same thing again, but delete the Owner account.

i don't think it's the key, but OEM versions can be BIOS locked. MS told OEM's that XP can be sold either BIOS locked or it would need activation. I'm not sure if you can install it on any Dell laptop, but I don't think you can install it on any other PC.
