I've had XP for a while now, installed and reinstalled a few times and noticed that the repair function now effectively re-builds the whole system. Now I'm thinking of changing from a P3 based system to an Athlon rig and I wonder:
If I swap my VP6/P3s/memory for an Abit KR7A Raid/AthlonXP/DDR RAM and leave everything else as it is, can I not just use the re-build function instead of reinstalling from scratch? Seems to me the OS goes through the whole process of identifying every component during repair, so presumably the new MB, CPU and RAM would work OK and I'd still have my settings and programs intact...? Anyone else tried this?
