Reinstalling WindowsXP

I recently went out and bought WindowsXP pro. I was originally "using" a friend's copy and just finally decided I did not want the hassle. Anyhow one of the things I had before I purchased the retail version was that I had copied somehow the contents of my old CD-ROM disk containing WindowsXP to my second partition. Along with all my documens, drivers and such it made for incredibly easy installs and formating and such. Now my question is, now that I have the new store bought CD with WindowsXP pro.. can I still copy the entire disk over to my D drive and can I still install from that? it just soooo much easier and faster and nice if ever you need to add componetns. I remember I had this setupd from Win98 and ME and loved it. My friend says this cannot work as there is copy proctection on the CD that prevents this. Is he correct?

Thanks

Bobs

There is no copy protection on the CD. In fact the EULA specificially states that you can make one backup copy of the disc.

Dang!! welll then I shall copy the contents on to my second partition tonight and refomat C and then install from there while booting off a boot disk!

Thanks

You don't have to format your C drive before installing. You can just blow away the partition and/or format your C drive during the XP Pro install.
