reinstalling windows XP

I want to reinstall windows XP pro on a computer which wont boot up, everytime windows finishes booting i get a BSOD. I tried to boot with "last known good config" which gives me a BSOD also. I dont want to lose any settings can I just reinstall just like old windows 9x?

I believe you can. There will be a question that comes up to ask if you want to repair the current OS. Try that first.

I did do the "r" option is just bascially gives me a C: prompt no real repair options.

Then reinstall over the top. IE: dirty install method. Should work. Just replace current OS. Do not let it format.

it says if i use the same folder everything will be deleted.

this is almost a year old XP install that i dont wanna lose 🙁

If you can get to a prompt, then try to backup your information and just format and reinstall.
