Reinstalling Window XP

I have 1 hard drive with 2 partitions. The primary and second partition have programs files in them. XP is installed on primary partition. How can I reinstall(fresh) window XP on primary partition while saving programs from the primary partition.

Can I just copy the "program files" folder from the primary partion to second partion, back up the registry to the second partion SO that when i have the new window xp, I can just copy them back to the primary partition from the second partition?

Anything else I need to do?

Are you planning on deleting the primary partition? As for your copy method, I would be shocked if that worked..

yes, I plan to format the primary partition and reinstall xp in there
