how would you reinstall win98 in a system with dual boot with win2k? i have win98 on the C: drive and win2k on the D: drive. I know that reinstalling win98 will screw up the boot loader, so would it work if i used PQ Drive Image and restored from an image? would the win2k boot loader still get messed up?

Do you just have regular 98? 98SE added itself to the bootloader automatically without my having to add anything after the command line, although that is a good piece of advice to know.

Since you'll probably have to install 98SE with a boot disk, when you reboot and get to a dos prompt, go to the CD drive and type setup /whatever there.

It should be right in the root directory of the CD, but if not, go to win98 or whatever it is :)

hai,
I have been doing this for over 2 months.
All u need is the files which are nesssacary for loading the 2 OSes
If u delete them hmmmph! i am sorry! but wait u can install the Os
with the foll files(located in c:\ of ur HDD)
Ntldr,Config.sys,Boot.ini,Msdos.sys,Ntdetect.com etc...
(it is better if u leave all the files in ur c:\(System&InI files)
So now just go and Install the Os in dos using a boot disk(98)
THats it your partition is left untouched....Enjoy!

Or once you install Win98, boot from teh Win2k CD and choose repair. Tell it to do quick repair and tell it to inspect/repair the boot sector. It will fix itself.
