Reinstalling Vista Ult

Well, my vista machine decided to crap out today, been working on it the last 3~4 hours. bascily vista boots pass the logo, shows please wait, then screen goes black. i can control mouse pointer and my hd continues to work(superfetch) but it stops there. nothing happens, just sits there. tried safe mode, same thing, control mouse on black screen. tried last good config, tried start up repair... i left it sit in the black screen for a good 20+ min and does nothing, did chkdsk with bootcd cmd......OMG, i going to kill some one!

i want to give up, so does vista offer a way to refresh/reinstall the core files? i know with windows XP, u can refresh core files or reinstall windows on top. with vista, i can only do a clean install and it warns me that it will rename previous os to windows.old.

x32 bit windows dell oem ult
dell vostro 1500
c2d, 2 gb ram.

once i pass the vista intro round logo, it shows the typical "please wait...", then screen goes black with mouse pointer on screen. cant do anything here, have to force down with power button. i know its some core file that is corpted, but i dont which and dunno how to repair it!!!! cant even get into safe mode!!! vistas startup repair keep saying there is nothing wrong cuz it pass intial boot! 🙁
