I'm thikning about getting Windows XP and Office Pro 2003 (please no comments about Linux, Unix, Open Source, or anything...)

But I also know I'll be getting a new computer soon. With all these software/piracy protections... am I going to have problems with installing on the new computer?

When I get the new computer, I won't be using the old one anymore... but I do I need to hold of on purchasing the new software until I get the new computer? or can I buy the software now, use it now... and still use it on the new computer when I get it?

Your probably thinking activation will be a problem when you switch PC's. It shouldn't be. You can buy it now, and you can even run it for 30 days before having to activate it. Even if you choose to activate it day one, you should still be able to activate it on your new pc. If not, you just call microsoft and say you got a new pc and they will give you a code to activate it. My experience is that you can do switch computers at least once before having to re-activate.
