Reinstall XP after Vista dual-boot install

Hi guys, Well my eighteen-month old Windows XP Pro installation is starting to get a little flaky. IE 7 keeps crashing on exit, and hangs briefly closing tabs. Screen saver doesn't kick off reliably. Little crap like that.

Thing is I have a Vista dual-boot installation, so what I want to do is reinstall XP onto the partition it is currently in. Pretty confident that will blow out Vista's MBR. If that happens I won't be able to boot Vista to use BCD to restore it. Can I use the Vista CD to do this, similar to what recovery console/fixmbr would do in XP? If I do this, will it preserve the BCD entries for the XP partition? Anyone have any experience at this?
