Reinstall win2k over previous installation?

I have win2k now installed for a 5 moths now, got no problems with it, but lately it started crashing on me (probably installed a bad program, don't know which one 🙂)

Can I just reinstall win2k over my version I have now, or should I just format the disk and start from there?
Formatting is'nt a problem because all of my programs are on another disk so I will lose nothing in the format.

You can't really install over itself like you could w/win9x. It will delete your entire winnt directory. So that means you have to reinstall everything cuz registry is lost too. I'd probably stick the cd in, boot to it, and choose repair. If that doesn't solve it, then you decide weather it's better to fresh install or reinstall. The work is the same...but if you reinstall, you save your work files.

Not true.

I managed to re-install win2k without it deltreeing the Winnt folder. All i did was insert the Win2k upgrade CD and told it to upgrade my OS. Worked like a charm.

Yeah, you can do a re-install by popping in the win2k CD... it should solve your problems... but again it's always better to have a fresh installation, but that will mean u have to re-install all your programs...

so I guess you have to weight what's important to you and what you wanna do...

Whoa...I was way off. Yeah, you guys are right. I totally neglected just popping in the cd.
What's weird is that I just tried popping in the cd. All it did was reboot and start up to the cd...which's the same as what I was suggesting. So for me and my ver, I still overwrite winnt dir. Well, whichever the case, just read the instructions as you go.
