Reiki and Christianity

Is there anything in the Bible that says that Christians should not practice Reiki? Is is a bad idea for a Chrisitan to practice it?

I have a lot of tolerance for a lot of things, but that Reiki stuff is kind of out there. I know a girl who practices it, and she is into it but I don't buy it. I don't see why it would be anti-Christian to learn reiki. Unless it inolves some nutjob fundamental Christian groups.

This is a topic that often gets a knee-jerk reaction that anything considered 'alternative medicine' must be occult and therefore satanic and therefore against God.

I disagree with that.

The Bible, particularly the Old Testament, speaks of mediums, spell-casters, etc. and warns of the danger of pursuing these things. The danger is how such things are studied.

If a person believes in God, has faith in Jesus, studies healing energies with the intentions of learning about the world that God created, prays for guidance in these studies, and has intentions of using this knowledge to help people, then I don't believe it is against God. There is still quite a bit about this world/universe/realm that we do not understand. The strict scientific community is still learning new things every day.

I believe the danger is that power corrupts. This is something most humans have heard before and know to be true. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." When studying areas of this world that are not currently well know, such as energy fields, many people are tempted. As such, most people should stay away from such areas. Better to be ignorant of them than to learn about them and fall to a dark path. Many 'witches' of old were corrupted by dark powers, demons, etc.

All of creation is God's. If an energy system exists, He put it there. It's how it is used that is right/wrong as far as I understand it. Unfortunately, humans have a habit of abusing power.

Some time back, a friend showed me Kinesiology. Many religious people disagree with studying Kinesiology and run from it believing it to be something evil. It's simply the study of another aspect of how the body works and the energy that flows through and around all of us. The person that has been teaching me is a devout Christian.

The tool is not inheriantly good or evil. It's how it's used and who uses it. But, there are outside influences.

I'm sure I already sound like a complete nutjob to most people, so I'll stop there. If you want to know more from me, PM me. 😉

Reiki is non-Christian

Reading the letter in the second half from the man that claims to be a former Reiki master was interesting.

I did not know Reiki involved becoming a medium. In that sense, I will say stay away. If you open yourself up to possession by another spirit in that way, the ONLY thing that is going to come through is demons.

Thanks for all the feedback! I was thinking of going to free Reiki session that my university is sponsoring, but after reading the above, I'm not going to go.
