Reid was the biggest problem in the current Congress

In my opinion, Harry Reid has done more harm to the country than Obama. With the changes he made to the Senate rules he effectively eliminated the representation of millions of people. By not allowing bills and amendments to be introduced by other members of Congress, he alone made all the decisions as to which bills and amendments would be allowed to be voted on by the Senate body. He removed every other persons representation in Congress, or at least the Senate. What would all the liberals in this forum think if someone like Ted Cruz had that ability? I hope the next Senate undoes those changes and really would like to see a measure, even if its by Constitutional Amendment, so that no Senate majority leader can ever do that again. I didn't vote for him and I don't live in Nevada, why should he be able to eliminate my representation?

He wasn't alone in the clusterf*ck of Congress. Things like the use of the Hastert Rule in the House kept legislation that would have passed with the Democrats and some Republicans from being brought to the floor.

That is just as bad. I would like to see these actions eliminated. I don't see how a party that sells itself as being for the little guy pushing rules that silences the voices of the minority.

And what were those changes HE made?

Who was it that filibustered their own bill? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Reid. That guy has to be worse.

There are so many screw ups in Congress that I think a better discussion would be "Who is good in congress"

This is a prime example of the amount of ignorance in this country with regards to how our government works.

OP, in order to be outraged I'd say you need to show how Reid's behavior was unprecedented (ie the republicans did not do the same thing), then I'd look at what the house was doing and compare. Next I'd actually look at what bills were being held back and who supported them.

Too much work? Then you aren't interested in fixing the problem nor do you care about who is really to blame.

Uhh, no he fucking doesn't need to show it was unprecedented. It doesn't matter who does it, it's wrong and needs to be controlled. Partisan hack.

Two wrongs don't make a right. You're a stick in the mud.

 And who is going to control it? The new boss is always the same as the old boss who was the same as the one before. Not going to happen. Things are going to get much, much worse. We'll see if the dems in the senate play obstructionist politics like the last minority.

If you payed attention I agreed that the problem should be stopped on both sides. Didn't your mother ever tell you two wrongs don't make a right? Your ignorance of OUR government is THE problem! It was never designed to be easy to pass laws for that exact reason. Major changes to our government was meant to be difficult and all laws needed to be fair to both the majority and the minority. Take a civics lesson! You must be fine with any majority rule, like keeping slavery in the early 1800's right? You sir are the ignorant one!

So, if McConnell decides to do the same thing you must be fine with it? I say don't do the same crappy thing and let the minority (Democrats) have a say is right and you fight it just because it criticizes your party and your are against it and make stupid comments about understanding how government works. Why don't you try to get everyone into the conversation instead?

Most people haven't a clue what Harry Reid did with the nuclear option. The real nail in the coffin was Obama breaking the border on purpose and slicking thousands of people (and their diseases who paralyzed kids) into country - and then letting Ebola into the country while every other nation (including African nations) blocked travel. Obama is so used to being able to tell whoppers and get away with it he really thought the could get away with telling people that keeping diseased people out of country would make things worse. Obama looked quite diabolical his last few months. Nobody is really stupid enough to think that if a family on your street has Ebola the "safe" thing to do would be to let the sick people visit around the neighborhood. Ebola may have killed only one person in US so far but it killed a political party. Obama crossed the Rubicon on Ebola.

Pretty sure it's been determined that a whooping 4 ebola cases and no travel ban is not a big deal.

I hope they do, and then they will have to cast actual votes to show it. Reid kept them from actually voting on these issues to protect them. It didn't really end up protecting them though..

Would you be saying that if you were on the plane with the guy that died while you and your family were stuck in your house for weeks? And what then if you or someone in your family did come down with it?

"Pretty sure it's been determined that a whooping 4 ebola cases and no travel ban is not a big deal."

Your a Dem I take it? Fact is most people were very concerned with Ebola and saw Obama and gov lying. Obama said you can't get sick on a bus - then other doctors said you can because Ebola is in saliva and can be in a sneeze. Its also in sweat. CDC website got busted for showing wrong protection info (diagrams had exposed skin - wrong info was changed after MD protests). Flying more and more people in with Ebola was wicked, stupid or both.

"More than two-thirds of voters (68 percent) are concerned about the Ebola virus spreading throughout the country, while just over half (55 percent) think the government is prepared to deal with it. Indeed, more than twice as many voters are “very” concerned (37 percent) than say the government is “very” prepared (16 percent).

Women (71 percent) are more concerned than men (64 percent), and Republicans (74 percent) are more worried than Democrats (63 percent) about Ebola spreading. Voters over age 65 are the most concerned (80 percent), while those under age 30 are the least concerned (55 percent).

Democrats (64 percent) are more likely than Republicans (51 percent) or independents (48 percent) to believe the government is prepared to deal with Ebola.

Overall, by a 60-35 percent margin, voters say the U.S. should ban flights from countries where the virus has broken out. That includes majorities of Republicans (70 percent), Democrats (57 percent) and independents (52 percent)."

Ok, this is some kind of performance art piece isn't it? Well done. I hope it get's a good mark for your school project.

What if the sky was pink?

What if lunches really were free?

What if you actually understood Ebola?

The 17th amendment is the root cause of this situation. Before that, Senators were elected by state legislatures and represented the interests of the states.

Lol! In order to have a conversation you have to agree on the facts. You don't even know what the facts are and you expect me to converse with you? I told you what you needed to do to be educated on the subject and instead of doing it you whined like a little bitch about two wrongs don't make it right, as if anyone suggested that.

Oh, please. Part of the obstructionist agenda was gumming up the works, introducing hopeless bills & amendments that all had to be debated as if they were more than that. It's like lawsuits, where deep pocket litigants & high dollar attorneys attempt to bury the opposition under frivolous discovery demands & delays.

Repubs forced the whole thing onto Reid with their bullshit, now claim it's all his fault.

What fact have you stated? Get a grip, you are loosing it. Your juvenile reliance on non-existing facts is funny. I stated a simple statement that all sides of the debate should have a voice and you argue about some one acting like "a little bitch" referring to a simple lesson that everyone over the age of 4 knows is very telling. The adults are in the room. Does your mother know you are online?

Let me state the facts that I am basing my argument on so you can understand it:

When either party finds a way to silence the other we no longer have a "REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC"!

Refute that! Don't call people names or use derogatory statements, use your mind instead. I bet you can't....

P.S. It shows a lot of your character when you have to revert to your most basic character (ID in psychology) to argue.

At least you present a coherent argument unlike ivwshane. Now, all minorities do this. The Republicans did threaten this very same thing (nuclear option) during the Bush years so it was only a matter of time until one party actually did it. That does not make it right and if we can't make if right, then all is lost. Do you agree with the tactic or should we stop it?

And the result of the old system was corruption on a scale beyond the wildest dreams of today's senators and civil war.
