Regrets: What you HAVE, or HAVEN'T done?

I hear more and more about things people regret not having done when they were younger. Things like not being more social, not trying things, and the like.

Of the regrets you all have about your lives, would you say more of them come from things you have done, or haven't? Right now, I'm really just trying to get some perspective on my life. I'm struggling with things like drinking to fit in more socially (I'm already an amazing extrovert, so I'm not too worried about social regrets), working hard in high school (1 year left), and other things like girlfriends and the like.

So should I go balls out while I'm still young? It sure SOUNDS like I'll be happier if I end up regretting things I've done, rather than chastising myself for life for not doing enough fun stuff (Barring things like getting HIV or dying of alcohol poisoning...).

What do you all think?

Drugs, sex, rock-n-roll, legally killing people.

My only regret is that I can't go back and do it all again.

its kinda odd, but my only regret is not working hard enough in english this year and in my 9th grade year...they make my transcript look ugly with a b for this year and a c in 9th grade...both were honors classes, but id hate for that to be the reason i dont get money for school or get into where i want....its pretty crappy if you ask me, but im also socially satisfied with my life...im friends and hang out with everyone i want to, and i have fun...so if thats my biggest regret thus far in my short life, i think i have it pretty good :D...however since im only 17 and going to be a senior in high school next year, all of my previous comments are null and void :p hehe ;)

I regret not doing a few things here, one specifically. But I won't list it here cause it might make a few people sick :Q

There's no law that says the first half of your life will be twice as good as the last. Sure, the older we get the more laments we have but we all make mistakes, learn and move on.

Seize the day. Age 10 or 50, it doesn't really matter.

Can't condone drinking to achieve an end, though. Truth is, it does more harm than good. Drink orange juice at parties. Those who laugh at you don't matter much in the grand scheme of things but that hot brunette in the corner just might be damned impressed by your decision.

It's funny how your perspective changes between the time when you're 16 vs when you're 33.. If I could do it over again, there's a girl out there that I would have loved to have gone out with, because I really liked her but was too emotionally immature to simply tell her so.

The problem with this whole "perspective" thing is that by the time we start to get really good at it, we've gotten too old for it to do any good.

my biggest regret is dropping out of a 4 year school to go to a community college.

also in high school I alway kept to myself other than with people I knew, etc... Guess I should have opened up some more and actually talked to some people. Maybe I would have had more friends and actually a girl :Q

<--- Was not in the "in crowd" Up until the 10th grade I was even picked on by people not in the in crowd...

If I could, I'd start hs again from second semester of my freshman year. Or atleast not get into the trouble I was in this previous (junior) year.

Don't drink to be more social, drink because you want to. If you're going to do it for the wrong reasons, why bother? I didn't drink at parties, and all but 1 of my friends drinks, yet we still manage to have a really good time, tell jokes, laugh, talk, play games, watch crappy movies ect...

Try hard in school, for sure, but don't let it overshadow your life. I see so many people that have strait A's in high school, and laugh at me for being "dumb" (3.2 GPA 28 ACT) and now they do nothing over the summer because they don't have friends. They also don't know how to communicate with others, which means they will have a harder time in college. The entire "popular" group at my high school failed to graduate because they partied every weekend and didn't care about high school. Both extreams suck, but all I know is that the middle ground is working for me. Now it's time for you too choose and pick wisely my friend, because sometimes, you might end up not getting a second chance. Find the balance, and do what YOU like, not what will make you more popular.

Well I'm 18 so have hardly any regrets.

One regret was that I wasn't more confident with girls earlier on. What a dam nut ahey? But hey at least I've learnt from that am confident with girls now:D

I drink but not too much (I do at times and love it every now and then lol ;)), I don't do MJ as its against my morals to do it and I'd get banned from my sports for doing it.

Granted, I don't believe most of you all who have replied are very old yet, but it looks like most of your regrets are along the lines of not talking to a girl you liked, or not working hard in school, or just not bothering to be social, right?

Right now, I've yet to talk to a girl I wasn't interested in (my confidence comes out of nowhere sometimes), and I'm pulling a 3.5 GPA, which is perfectly acceptable to me, and I'm literally friends with almost every person in my grade right now. Am I pretty much set up to not regret a lot?

P.S. Thanks for the replies so far. I'm actually amazed with the general lack of nef posts in here. :)
