Registry Problems..

I got an error message in Windows XP SP2 that said something along the lines of "The registry has run out of space. No more entries will be made." This is not the exact wording of the error because I can't remember it exactly. I decided to restart my computer to see if that would clear it up and it will no longer boot. This is the second time this has happened.

The same thing happened a couple weeks ago. When XP was restarted it came to the screen that said it had shut down improperly, and lets you choose to Start normally or in Safe Mode. When I chose Start Normally it would goto a blue screen with BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO error, and when I chose Safe Mode it would start loading, then freeze. Selecting "Most recent settings that worked" does the same thing as Start Normally.

The most recent time this happened it goes to the same screen that lets you choose Start Normally, and Safe Mode. Choosing Start Normally just reboots the computer, and Safe Mode locks it up. Selecting "Most recent settings that worked" does the same thing as Start Normally.

One of the first things that came to mind was that this could be a RAM issue. Due to this I decided to run Memtest86 on it, and its been running for almost 15 hours at 50 passes, and there are no errors.

Anyone have any Idea as to what could be causing this? These errors occured on 2 separate hard drives as well.

Edit: Well I went to look at MemTest again and I spoke too soon. On the next pass it found 4 errors. Would the ram be the likely culprit?

Well it sure could be. The OS has no way of knowing that the ram can't be trusted to store values. So almost any critical registry structure could have been stored across a bad bit and then retrieved with a different value than what was put in.

Yeah I'm leaning more towards ram too, Memtest is up to 18 errors now.

can always try a few things with the ram..
1. try one stick individually in every different slot
2. bump up vdimm voltage
3. underclock ram fsb
