Registry Key Search!

hi all. I just recently acquired Win 2k. However, I installed it and lost my cd key. (probably thrown out with all that paperwork and such) I know that it is someone in my registry, but cannot find it. Any info on what to search for would be nice, or where exactly I can find it. Keep in mind I am running Win 2k, so the registry is not the same as Win 9x or ME. Thnx

try HKLM\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Registration

or HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

fitz i have a txt file with about 100 keys i can email you. Did you buy it or get it off a sight somewhere. If you got it off a sight i'm positive one of these will work.

sorry i bought it, i really don't want to use an illegal key for win2k, thanks for your help though

I searched for my CD key using regedit, and it didn't find it. It must not be stored in the 25 character format you enter when you install windows.

Its in there. I found it once but it was either in binary or asci I cant remember for sure. Try HKLM/Soft/MS/WinNT/current version, The string is digital product id or something like that.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion

Find Value: ProductID and open it.
Ignore first and last 5 digits, the middle characters are your CD Key.
