registry hacks / tweaking

This is in regards to this previous thread, as well as this one.

I have a list of registry tweaks and edits that I use to improve (atleast in theory) performance in windows. One of these is the 'Improved Memory Management' which sets the second level cache for windows. It is normally set to 0. I finally got my machine up, and I did the registry edits on my wife's machine, so I'll see if there is a difference in that. I'll post what I find on that later.

Here is a list of all my tweaks. I just did up a quick, simple page real quick. If you want something added, or have a suggestion for another one, by all means, please let me know.

wheres your "disableballoontips" 🙂

i use some but its more to remove annoyances (like auto run and balloon tips) then improve performance. i thought the memory management tweaks were questionable and possibly risky?

dual layer nec 4320a IIirc

maybe the 3520a can't remember now.

but this happens on any dvd drive I have tried. Not thru the registry, just in the settings.

I'll look for that balloontips one. And there are a few for Firefox that I need to find again... I've never heard that the memory management ones were risky; I'll have to research that.

chocobo, check out the elder geek for the balloon tips one. and i read the "warning" for the memory ones at theaktown or tweeaksrus. i'll see if i can find it later.

wolf, i use the regedit "disable auto run" with my nec, both 3500 and 3540.

edit- looks like the warning was for 512ram and less or windows 2000, not xp.

let us know how it goes 🙂

Okay, DPAD has been running on the wife's machine for a while, and there isn't a difference. So she's getting about 332...
