Registry and illegal operation problems

Hey,

I've just built a new system:

abit be6-II running bios behrv
p2-400 cpu
128 megs of pc-100 RAM (toshiba)
maxtor 10 gig HD
SB Live! value card
Voodoo 3 3000 pci card
Mitsumi unk speed cd-rom
Asantefast 10/100 network card
Windows 98

I was attempting to install a Napster, and when I rebooted, I received a "Registry checker" error, and windows rebooted and fixed the problem. (well sort of. It also made me have to reinstall all my programs over again) I installed IE 5.01 again, and began to get multiple Illegal Operations (almost all error messages where different), as well as a few more registry checker errors. Does this have something to do with any of my hardware? I guess the only way I can tell is by trying to reinstall everything again... But I was just wondering if anyone knew the main cause of these types of errors. Maybe a bad Hard Drive? Thanks in advance.

CPU instability as a result of overclocking usually causes registry errors and such... are you sure that the CPU is getting the proper voltage and that the heatsink and fan are properly attached and working? It could also be your RAM, try swapping it with some other memory from a friend or something and see if it works...
