Registered to take CISSP Exam

I took the plunge and registered to take it. A cool $500 bucks, plus the 60 for the official study guide. I had to put out my wallet with an 18-wheeler-sized fire extinguisher.

Assuming they have a slot open, I'll be taking it August 29 in Austin TX. If I pass it, I'll be an "Associate of (ISC)²" until I have the required years of experience (I need about 1 1/2 more years) in the security field, at which point they actually issue me the full certification. But I can still tell people I passed the CISSP exam, but not that I'm "CISSP Certified". They give you a 5 year grace period to get the experience you need to become fully certified, then all the regular recertification and maintenance stuff kicks in. Not a bad deal for people starting out in the security field.

Anyone who's taken the test have any recommendations for me? My job right now has got me covered in pretty much all of the domains except "Law, Investigations & Ethics". But I'll be hitting the book hard as soon as it comes in fron B&N.

I was thinking of doing the same thing you are. What book(s) are you getting? I'll be monitoring this thread 🙂

good luck! i havent taken it but was thinking about it oneday. I heard that its a tough exam though. Some guys that worked in security for years felt like 2yr olds taking the test. it could be just the case that they didnt study hard enough, but either way, everyone ive talked to agress the test is not a walk in the park. let us know your thoughts on it when you take it.

Most of the security field relies on theory. 😉

How many years of experience do you need to be CISSP certified? I was thinking about trying my hand at the test (after a lot of studying, $500 is a lot of money to me).

To answer my own question: 4 years in security related fields (network, physical, etc). I think I've got about that. 😀

The quizes on this page were just recommended by someone that just took the CISSP.
