Registered DDR for 2+ modules?

I would like to know if it is true that I will need registered RAM modules whenever I put more than 2 modules on a motherboard.

I am thinking about 1.5G RAM with 3 512M modules but the registered RAM is way more expensive than the non-registered ones.

DDR boards such as the 7DXR do require Registered memory when using 3 256MB+ sticks. I have heard of similar issues with the KG7. The Registered 256MB DDR memory at Crucial is only about a dollar more per stick than non-Registered. I am not sure about 512MB sticks of other brands.

Btw, while unsupported by Abit or AMD. KG7 does support 4 unbuffered DIMM's, it's just not supported by Abit or AMD.

<< KG7 does support 4 unbuffered DIMM's >>

This statement is not accurate. The ram specs are determined by the chipset, not the MB, and the amd761 chipset spec does not support 4 unbuffered DIMM's. Some reviewers, while testing this MB, found that 4 unregistered dimms would work for them, on pre-production boards, but the broad generalization proposed by Athlon4all is unfounded.
