Built a new machine for my technophobic father who would not tolerate any change to hat he is used to - computer wise. So, got a copy of WinXP from Ebay and loaded it.

Then he decides he doesn't want the new machine.

So, Ihaven't "registered" the OS yet and I am getting close to the deadline.

Two questions:

What happens if I never do? Does it start to fail? Or do the MS cops knock at the door?

Can I wipe the hard drive of any trace of XP and save it for another day, when he decides it might be alright to change?😕

I'm guessing you're referring to activation? You have a 30-day "grace period" (for testing and whatnot, like you were doing). If you don't activate by day 30, you get locked out until you do activate your installation. Should you decide to wipe it, nothing happens and the timer restarts from the day you reinstall.

Locked out!?

Well, that certainly encourages me to clean it off and pretend it never happened.

Now, what to do with a surplus machine. I will find something!🙄

Thanx

Dave
